I was just wondering if anyone out there is using jumbo frames on there Mythtv network, and if so, are there any drawbacks to doing so. I have some gigabit switches on order and am wondering if setting my network up for jumbo frames will help me or hurt me.
I have one backend server and three frontends with my videos/dvd's stored remotely on another linux server(Everything was setup piecemeal over time). I am concerned about bandwidth with multiple users watching dvds at the same time (streaming from the non-myth linux server).
Thanks

The trouble I found with
The trouble I found with using Jumbo Frames was that if you attach anything other than a Gigabit lan device onto the network then your performance gain is lost.
In my example I was using a Wireless router and a 100 Mb lan in an old pc, so I left it as the default.
One thing you should look at is what gigabit lan cards you use and what interface and drivers they use. I found that my server's PCI bus was swamped with a software raid 5 disk array and 2 gigabit lan cards.
Try and get the newer PCI-E cards...
Only other point was making sure that all your routers fully support 802.3ad properly, my Dell router didn't so I could only use the manual switching instead.
