I've been using MythDora for about 8 months now its great. I've currently in my system a 60GB HDD. I've noticed that MythTV records in MPEG 2 format I'm curious if there is a way to have it record in MPEG 4 format to allow more video per space ratio.
Another Issue I'm thinking of purchasing a pcHDTV-5500 for my system and adding it to the setup. Has anyone used this card recently, is it stable, does it have good drivers, easy to install, does this card record in MPEG 4, etc...
Current System Setup
2000+ AMD Athlon
768MB Memory
MMX440 Nvidia (TV-OUT)
Hauppauge PVR-350
60 GB HDD(probably upgrading to a 160 shortly)

Myth will only record what
Myth will only record what your capture card will do. So if it records in MPEG2 format then thats what it records at. Most don't want to go to MPEG4 cause of the video quality. If you have space issues then you need to adjust your recording profiles so that the MPEG2 files aren't so big.
The HD5500 does work but requires some manual work to get it to work correctly. This card also records in MPEG2 format.

What about setting the
What about setting the default recording profile to always transcode and then choosing mpeg4 for the transcode.
Yes, I know it still records as Mpeg2 first, but provided you have some shuffle space you end up with Mpeg4.
Of course 300GB drives are cheap. :-)
