Try renaming the mpg to nuv and see if it will work in MythVideo.

I'll try that.
I also want to import mpg's and then use MythBurn for making DVD's with those imported files. Would I have to somehow update the mysql database so that Mythweb/Burn can see the newly added files?

Don't think importing for it to use MythBurn will work. The nuv file that it looks for is coded in a way that MythBurn understands. Since you won't have that, things will go south if you try. I'm not a 100% sure that what I told you before will even work but its worth a try.
