Usage

If anyone is interrested...

The mkiconmap.pl script is broke in MythTv
Here is snip from MythTvTalk.com

For anyone else who was trying to get this to work,
there is a fix. Mythtv's mkiconmap.pl script actually
calls XMLTV's tv_grab_na_icons. It was actually this
script that was using the old web-page's format, not
mkiconmap.pl. The developers for XMLTV have quickly
fixed this code to reflect the changes on zap2it's
website. (Thanks!) So to fix this, you have to
download the new code found here:

Update - you can now do a yum install xmltv which will pull in the latest version.

FIRST
Login as root
install make (yum install make)
Download http://snapshot.xmltv.org
tar -xf xmltv-nightly.tgz
cd xmltv-nightly
install:
perl Makefile.PL
make
make test
make install

after install run as root: snip from Jarod Wilson
perl /usr/share/doc/mythtv-*/contrib/mkiconmap.pl
The script will ask for your zipcode
after complete logout from root and as user mythtv
run mythfilldatabase --import-icon-map iconmap.xml --update-icon-map
If you dont log out from root the icon dir will be installed under root. MythTv will not be able to access them..

You shouldn't have had to do that. The icon script was busted in the prior xmltv version and has been fixed. All you had to do was yum install xmltv and it would have saved you time.

first login as superuser ('su')
type 'yum install xmltv'
then 'perl /usr/share/doc/mythtv-*/contrib/mkiconmap.pl'
then 'exit' to return as mythtv user
then 'mythfilldatabase --import-icon-map iconmap.xml --update-icon-map'
reboot and enjoy the channel icons :)

Well... when you run the mkiconmap.pl script it dumps it to PWD. So.. copy the iconmap.xml to somewhere the mythtv user can read it and try this instead:

mythfilldatabase --import-icon-map /path/to/iconmap.xml --update-icon-map

The procedure with the fix worked for me, but I found the Icons to be low rez, ugly, and very incomplete (lots of stations were missing). I spent a few hours just adding them manually from Icons for stations I found off of wikipedia and the "channel icon place". I actually learned alot about some of the channels .... I had no clue about a lot of the new sat channels.

Yes, I did though I don't remember if I had to change anything... I even modified the file it produced to add additional icons which the script did not obtain for me (I'm in Canada and I got the icons for the US channels and none of the ones for the Canadian channels)...

BTW, I believe that procedure was made when MythDora 4.0 was already the current version and the person who did it probably had it so it should work without problems...

Did you try it and if it didn't work what error message are you getting?

Unless I did something wrong the icons only appear in the on screen program guide (and not in the web interface) so you have to check for their presence there...
