At this point I think I'll reinstall and instead of "startx" I'll try an "init 5" as soon as the system is up.
Thx

Text Mode Install Update
It's working. I had to do a bit of searching (searched on login, I believe) but I found the userid and password.
For whatever reason the GEForce 6600 card acts weird. It does seem to require a power off, although this time I had to do it several times. This doesn't make sense to me, but I don't want to do a re-install just to try to isolate it. If you have a GEForce 6600 card, make sure you select (on an earlier screen) to install the driver for the newer NVidia cards and keep in mind that it may require a power off. Your mileage may vary.
Also, from the userid you can't run the init 5 command so I had to use startx. I don't think this matters although, at some point I still need to set the machine up to automatically start in graphics mode and start MythTV.
Thanks your your help.
The next step is setting up the optimum configuration for connecting to my TV (resolutions and method of connection (Composite, S-Video, Component)). I've been using composite at 640-480, in my previous MythTV build, but I know the TV can do better.

If your getting this on a regular FC6 install then your having some kind of hardware conflict. You shouldn't have to poweroff for any reason. But since you did, after it comes back up you should be presented with the questions from firstboot. You DO NOT want to login as root for any reason. MythDora has a built in account for mythtv user and it will automatically do this for you after 5 seconds at the GDM screen.

As suggested by BigChris I
As suggested by BigChris I feel it's simply a driver issue. Until the NVidia driver is loaded the default video doesn't work with this card. I don't think that's the problem. It works fine once the driver is loaded. I suppose one option would be to load the driver at boot but that's beyond my skill level.
The solution that almost works well is to install in text mode. This is incredibly slick and 30 minutes later I have a "built" system. I basically take the defaults, although I use Static IP. I've run into this problem
I've run into this problem with the 6600 on several other distros and I expect Fedora is the same. The problem is that the default nv driver can't handle the 6600 and the solution is always to install the nvidia driver in text mode first and get it running. Then you can init5 or startx and all should be fine. Since I haven't actually done this with Fedora I'll leave the how-to details to someone else.
It might be as simple as
modprobe nvidia
