I am new to MythTV and am struggling to get this working. I was using Snapstream Beyond TV: a very buggy progy. So, after several problems with it a friend of mine suggested I move to MythTV. Having NO prior Linux experience I am running into several walls. I could have been able to work through some of the issues reading threads, but am to the point of asking for assistance through the installation ---> Am a single parent of 2 boys ages 3 and 4 and do NOT wish to consume too much time learning Linux so that I can get it to work. SO THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT CAN SPEND A LITTLE TIME WALKING THROUGH THE SETUP I WOULD BE MOST APPECIATIVE.

I need assistance with:
1) TV Output (enable S-Video OUT / GeForce 7900)
2) SPDIF (enable digital output)
3) REMOTE (get the remote to work - edited the lircd.conf file using info found at mythtv.org but it is not working)
4) MEDIA EXT (set-up my Media MVP so work)

Thermaltake Mozart Sx Case with:
MOTHERBOARD: Asus P4S533
PROCESSOR: Intel 2.1 processor
AUDIO: Onboard (SPDIF coax)
GRAPHICS: nVidia GeForce 7900 GS

CAPTURE: Hauppauge PVR500-MCE
REMOTE: SnapStream Firefly Remote
MEDIA EXT: Hauppauge Media MVP

1) In /storage/misc/extras

1) In /storage/misc/extras there is a file called xorg.conf.NVIDIA. Swap that out with the one you have now in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Make sure you installed the NVIDIA drivers
2) This is a PIA to setup. You will need to read up on this one or hopefully someone else can help.
3) This remote works out of the box. All you had to do is choose it during setup. You can go to MythDora Tools and under Resetup you can choose your remote again.
4) Just execute mediamvp.sh at xterm and follow the directions. You will need to change out the MediaMVP dongle to allow for LiveTV.

Unfortunately this project does require "some" effort on your part. I have tried to make this as easy as possible to setup but sometimes it does require one to look through the posts or Google for an answer.

Slowly Working

THANKs d00dtv for the posting... This is the first time I have had to rely on others to walk me through ANYTHING computer related (have spent 2 days thus far installing MythTV. This is very strange for me as I am providing help to others ***Very strange being on the otherside***

I was able to get the Firefly Remote to work by editing the file. Now I am working on the MVP installation. I executed mediamvp.sh and setup the unit by entering in the IP Address it is using on the network: 192.168.1.103, then entered the MAC Address with ":" between every 2 charactors (shown in the example - MAC 00:0d:fe:22:4f:0d). Although the unit does NOT have ":" charactor printed on device.

I am trying to get the unit to sink and it is unable to locate the "Streaming Server". THIS IS A WIRELESS CONNECTION

Additionally, I am unfamiliar with executing the dongle file. I was able to "unzip" a tar.gz file, but am unable to locate information on extracting the .gz file.

Please let me know what should be done at this point - thanks

To unzip a .tar.gz file

To unzip a .tar.gz file simply do tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz. Then replace your new dongle.bin file with the one located in /tftpboot. Once you do that you will need to powercycle your MediaMVP. Be sure to read over that post I provided.

Still hitting Walls

Alright, I have better educated myself with Linux so I am not drowning at this point. Now I have some more complex issues and was unable to locate a solution:

VIDEO: after swapping out the xorg.conf file and rebooting the S-Video connection works, but the monitor no longer getting a signal (black screen). Have both displays connected to GeForce 7900 (TV: S-Video cable CRT: DVI cable). Reverting back to the original file: Monitor works, but TV does not....

Is there ANY way to have daul monitors? Looking at the conf file, it shows "CLONE" and CRT, TV so one can only think BOTH should work. Should mention, upon start-up and shutdown both monitors have a display.

Below is part of the conf file (REPLACED FILE)

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
HorizSync 30.0 - 50.0
VertRefresh 60.0 - 60.0
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce"
Option "TwinView"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT, TV"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60"

Yes this setup is supposed

Yes this setup is supposed to allow for CRT and TV at the same time. Maybe try commenting out

# Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50"
# Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60"

and then try using this instead.

Option "TwinView" "true"

Save the file and restart X with ctrl alt + Backspace

Problem Resolved

I tried what you posted above but to no avail. The TV would have a display but the monitor would go blank as soon as GnOME booted. After numerous failed attempts I finally got it to work

SOLUTION: Switched from DIGITAL (DVI) to ANALOG (VGA); installed CORRECT cable.

Thanks for all your help... May need to call on you again later today as my remote Firefly remote does not work properly - can only use Arrows, OK, and Menu buttons...
