Can I stop Commercial Detection on the fly?

When I am watching a program which is still being recorded, is there a way I can stop the commercial detection (which taxes my system) without losing any of the program? In other words, once a program starts recording, do I have any way of affecting it without interrupting it?

System Information
Yes, you can go into the System Information screen, then Job Queue, select the job it's doing and tell it to pause. The right arrow will bring up the pause screen. You can also tell it to cancel the job.
I'm not at my Mythbox right now, so I may not be remembering the correct sequence of events.
