Since XfCE4 is already on the MythDora disk, you can install these instead of using the package manager. Just insert the MythDora disk and at xterm as root you could try doing this:

If you have done any kind of a system upgrade, which is a HUGE NO NO, then your screwed. If this is a fresh install then try this for shits and giggles.

Ah thats why. You do not have a fresh install of MythDora. You need to boot into the default kernel for MythDora.

Damnit...I deleted the wrong double post. Sorry bout that guys. Anyway the conversation went as follows for anyone wanting to know. Fasteddy edited grub.conf and got the default kernel back but things were still messed up. Bigchris advises that a reinstall maybe in order and suggests to make sure that fasteddy install xfce4 during the software package selection. Fasteddy says he may do this but Gnome is running soso for him at the moment and may try it like that.
