I am new to MythTV and fedora. I initially began installing MythTV using Fedora 8 before I noticed there was a MythDora pacakage out there using fc6. I did not have an issue creating the xorg.conf file on fc8 using nvidia's installer.
I installed the 9755 nvidia driver for my 8800GT, but the nvidia-installer doesn't compile an xorg.conf file that works. I am running this on an AMD64. I get an API mismatch.
I have been trying to resolve this for two weeks now and I'm ready to throw in the towel. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

try with livna´s rpm
I updated kernel and nvidia driver and work ok.
See spanish,sorry do copy/paste, suerte
Have you installed the 9755
Have you installed the 9755 rpm's from MythDora or are you trying to compile the 9755 driver from Nvidia?

I have tried a plethora of things.
I first selected the 9755 driver from the display settings in the GUI. When I rebooted, the X Server couldn't start. So I copied the xorg.conf.old to the xorg.conf file, downloaded the latest 9755.pkg1.run file from nvidia's website and installed that. Still no luck with X Server starting up. Then I tried using the livna repos. No dice. It says my nvidia driver kernel and xorg kernel have a mismatch. I have no idea how to fix this.
When I compile the nvidia driver using nvidia's tool, it doesn't have the "Files" section, nor the "Module" section. I thought this was odd, since both of those sections were built by the nvidia's tool when I was using fc8.
Thanks in advance!

You should have checked the Xorg logs to what the error was.

You grabbed the wrong kernel vesion thats all. You don't want to run Livna stuff anyway.
So what you need to do is remove any Livna or compiled Nvidia drivers you have installed and go back to using the supplied 9755 drivers in MythDora. Make sure you don't use the video driver update script in MythDora Tools as it's busted. Then after X fails get to a command prompt and find out what the error is by doing this.
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE
The EE are errors and it will tell you what the issue is.

Now, if I re-image my box with a clean MythDora install, then exit the X Server, what should I do next to use the NVIDIA drivers included with the MythDora install? If I select the 9755 driver from the System -> Admin -> Display menu item, that's when the issues begin. Once I reboot, the X Server won't start and I have to swap out the xorg.conf to use the versa driver.
I guess I'm at a loss as to how I grabbed the wrong kernel version?? Do you mean I should have used the pkg2.run file instead? I assumed that the pkg1.run should have been selected since the MythDora install is based on the i386 install instead of the X86_64 version of Fedora. Again, I'm completely new to this Linux environment so most of this is new to me.
What would you suggest trying after I reinstall MythDora?
Thanks!

If you simply want to reinstall MythDora, then during installation choose the 9755 drivers then. This is just like a Fedora install. They're in the Video Output Drivers section. There is no need to install any sort of nvidia driver afterwards if you have already installed it. If X fails again then, then check the Xorg log like I said.

I'm not opposed to using a different driver. I guess I really haven't figured out how to install a new driver. Every time I try to install a driver using yum, yum -y install nvidia-driver9755-kmdl-$KVER, the atrpms repo errors out due to a bad mirror site. Am I supposed to change this mirror site? Every help doc I've read lists this mirror so I don't understand why I'm getting 404 errors.
I'm just so frustrated at this point that I"m almost ready to go back to windows and throw in the towel. I can't really find any documentation on the issue I'm having which doesn't help.
Where would I find a new driver? I go to NVIDIA's website and choose 8800GT, 32-bit and it gives me the nvidia-driver9755. Am I missing something?
Thanks

There is no need at all to use yum to install 9755 Nvidia drivers as they are supplied by MythDora. And yes you are supposed to change the mirror site. Something tells me that you haven't read the main page on this site or upgraded to the much needed 0.20.2 of MythTV to get the Schedules Direct grabber. If you had then you wouldn't be getting the 404 errors.

You must be doing something
You must be doing something wrong. When I put that search argument into Nvidia's site, I get this:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_169.12.html
169.12 is the correct driver but you don't use yum to install it. Nvidia provides install instructions in the same web page.
I downloaded the 169.12 from
I downloaded the 169.12 from NVIDIA's website onto my desktop. I opened a terminal session as root, typed init 3, then cd root/Desktop, then sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1.run. The NVIDIA driver compiler opens up, click Yes and then I get two messages. One is that it can't find a Kernel Driver on my machine so it looks at ftp://nvidia.com for one, nor can it find one there. It tells me it's building a Kernel driver for me. Then I get an error message that says it doesn't know where to put the files so it assumes a folder and if I have problems opening the xorg.conf file using X, that I should download the pkg-config and SDK for my linux kernel. I've done that, installed both and it still doesn't work.
It keeps telling me that I have an API error and that my kernels don't match. I don't know which kernel's they are referring to. It's quite a vague message for a noob to understand, well for me to understand. I know it's comparing 169.12 to something, but I dont' know what and how to find out what the other kernel version is.
