No DVD player in Optical Disks menu

Hello Guys,

I have just upgraded to myth 0.21 from mythdora 4 . I had to do it , to overcome a problem with live tv exiting after every show . With new myth this seems to have stopped and I can watch for hours without a blue screen of death . So extremely happy with things so far , except I noticed that "play DVD " has gone from the Optical Disks menu . My question is how do I play dvd's now ? I am running with standard mythdora configurations .

This is because you skipped

This is because you skipped a step in the instructions. You have to install MythDVD manually as it isn't automatically pulled in. Reread the instructions again carefully.

Hmmm, nevermind. I've just read that MythDVD has been removed and has now been merged into MythVideo. I find this to be very user unfriendly but it's not my call :-/

Hello Dennis, What do you

Hello Dennis,

What do you recommend ? I liked the old method of playing DVDs . Also I was very happy with xine to play my rips and mpegs and other recordings (not myth ones) . And was not wanting to change that . Is there anything I could do to be able to play DVDs and Bluerays without too much fuss .

There isn't much you can do

There isn't much you can do about this unless you want to hack the xml code to create the DVD menu again. It's possible but make sure you backup any files before you do. And you can still continue to use Xine if you want. I'm sure that you can still change the player to what you want in the MythVideo settings somewhere.

Look in /home/mythtv/.mythtv

There are some customized XML files for MythDora in /home/mythtv/.mythtv. These are applicable to MythTV 0.20.2, but no longer applicable to 0.21. I just removed all the *.xml files from this directory. This gets rid of the MythDora customization, which is no longer applicable to 0.21.

Thanks for that Dan,

I did just that , removed the .xml files and now all menus are back to normal . I have my dvd stuff back . The only thing that I have lost is the mythdora menu - xterm and restarts , but that is no big loss , I can live with that . Much appreciate your help .

Ouch!
