After getting Myth up and running on a CRT (not the TV), I tried to copy over my existing xorg.conf file with the NVidia one in the directory. When I restarted and Linux was booting up, I saw the standard:

Initializing Hardware: storage network audio

And then, nothing! It just hangs and sits there for some 5+ minutes.

Any idea on what might be causing this or how to get around it other than reinstalling MythDora (which I'm doing now).

Some questions:

I have a Asus pundit with a pvr-350. I want to try to get things working with the NVida s-vid before I config the pvr-350, so for now, I'm *completely replacing* my exisiting xorg.config file with the xorg.config.NVIDIA in the CD's extra dir. Is that right?

Any insight on if there's a way to get the TV and the CRT running at the same time rather than just one or the other?

System reboot hangs when xorg.conf changed

Per my posting above, I've now done two fresh installs because my box is hanging at the "Initializing Hardware" stage after I reboot after I change my xorg.conf.

I looked around the forms and found this post:

Changing Xorg.conf
http://mythdora.com/?q=node/37

But this doesn't seem to work for me. I tried to get into single user mode so I could change back to my original xorg.conf (that's my first priority right now, rather than reinstalling MythDora a 3rd time), but can't get into it. Any insights? Have things changed with the newer version of Grub (v9.5?)?

I had exactly this problem

I had exactly this problem with FC4 before. I had to unplug all my external hard drives, then reboot.

Knoppix

I just got around this right now by booting up off of a Knoppix CD, putting back the original xorg.conf file, and then rebooting.

The problem I was having seemed to be due to the fact that I had stupidly copied over the xorg.conf.NVIDIA file from the extras dir on the MythDora CD. After I copied over the xorg.conf.ATI dir (since I have an ATI graphics!), things seemed to work fine.

I wasn't going to say

I wasn't going to say anything to see if you worked it out and you did. I was going to ask you why you weren't using the onboard ATI as I have a great picture with mine. Glad it's now working :-).
