Plugreport still gives me the can\'t find /dev/raw1394 error.</p>\n<p>I did this: mythdora-1.5-17.md5.noarch.rpm, and this: yum upgrade mythdora, yum upgrade faad2. And yum ieee1394-kmdl, but there are 4 files on ATrpms that are ieee1394-kmdl so I\'m not sure which one is correct. I get no dependency errors or errors of any kind, so I think I\'m using Yum correctly.</p>\n<p>Obviously I\'m not doing something right, like adding an entry to a blacklist or a whitelist someplace. Do I need a .conf file to tell Mythdora to load this stuff at boot?</p>\n<p>Can anyone post a step by step procedure?</p>\n<p>On a related note I downloaded Mythbuntu 8.04 to see how they did it. Mythbuntu loads the correct firewire drivers and automagically finds the DCT-6200 by it\'s GUID. BUT that\'s *all* mythbuntu does right. The video doesn\'t display right, and it crashes when trying to record from firewire and it has no idea what a Kworld ATSC 110, or an Avermedia A180 is.</p>\n<p>I\'ve been a Mythdora 3.2/4.0 user for a year and a half and I love it. I'm still having no luck at

I'm still having no luck at all getting firewire to work on MD5.

I've tried everything mentioned in this forum from various threads and still no go. Plugreport still gives me the can't find /dev/raw1394 error.

I did this: mythdora-1.5-17.md5.noarch.rpm, and this: yum upgrade mythdora, yum upgrade faad2. And yum ieee1394-kmdl, but there are 4 files on ATrpms that are ieee1394-kmdl so I'm not sure which one is correct. I get no dependency errors or errors of any kind, so I think I'm using Yum correctly.

Obviously I'm not doing something right, like adding an entry to a blacklist or a whitelist someplace. Do I need a .conf file to tell Mythdora to load this stuff at boot?

Can anyone post a step by step procedure?

On a related note I downloaded Mythbuntu 8.04 to see how they did it. Mythbuntu loads the correct firewire drivers and automagically finds the DCT-6200 by it's GUID. BUT that's *all* mythbuntu does right. The video doesn't display right, and it crashes when trying to record from firewire and it has no idea what a Kworld ATSC 110, or an Avermedia A180 is.

I've been a Mythdora 3.2/4.0 user for a year and a half and I love it. I'm not bashing Mythdora at all.

Unfortunately we left it off by accident and ATrpms got rid of the 2.6.24.4-64 kernel module needed for firewire to work. That kernel didn't seem to stick around for very long as it had issues. The only thing that I can suggest would be to upgrade to the latest kernel and then grab any other needed kernel modules you might need.
The only problem by going to a new kernel would be that the old firewire stack will be gone.

no firewire?

I did a fresh install and ieee1394 firewire support located in Video Output Drivers was checked when installing.

I try to run plugreport:
plugreport
raw1394 - couldn't get handle: No such file or directory
This error usually means that the raw1394 driver is not loaded or that /dev/raw1394 does not exist.

On the Capture Card setup screen, when I chose "Firewire Cable Box" it is a bit different than MD4 as it dosn't have node or port.

Any ideas?

re-reading the thread, I just did a yum upgrade kernel and then did a yum install ieee1394-kmdl-2.6.24.7-92.fc8.i686 (libraw1394 and iec61883 all ready installed).

/etc/modprobe.d

added to blacklist

blacklist firewire_core
blacklist firewire_ohci

somewhat easier than rebuilding from source yada yada yadayadayadayadayadayadayadayadayadayada :)

I took and installed this driver,
yum install ieee1394-kmdl-2.6.24.5-85_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc8.i586 and the appropriate kernel and dependencys.

but once I rebooted I need to find a new nvidia driver but firewire worked and I was able to use the digital cable box.

I'll test it out more tomorrow to make sure its stable.

I didn't see the option for firewire support so I must have missed a menu. When I try to install it from the disk I get the following error: I can't find the required ieee1394-kmdl-2.6.24.3-5.fc8 package on the disk.

The only kernel module I can find is for an update kernel:

but when doing a yum update I get the following error:
Error: Missing Dependency: libmp4ff.so.0 is needed by package mythmusic

It seems that a version of faad2 without libmp4ff is included in both livna and mythdora repositories. The one that's needed is the version of faad2 from atrpms that has libmp4ff. I still don't see a version of the kernel module for the kernel included ina default install of mythdora.

Apologies if I'm missing something obvious.

Hmmm, that shouldn't have happened. When the ISO is made it's supposed to add in all dependencies. Not sure why that one didn't get added in. You can always download the kmdl from ATrpms and install manually though.
