MD5 horsepower requirements

For those running FX 6200 and HDTV, Ryan just gave me a tweak that cut my cpu utilization by a third! I haven't finished evaluating it in terms of video quality but for those with excessive cpu utilization, I'll offer it here in hopes that more eyes are a good thing.

As root, edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and in Section "Device" just before EndSection insert a new line:
Option "UseEvents" "True"
Then save and exit and restart X or reboot. This one change dropped my P4's utilization % from the 90s to the 60s while watching HDTV.

Hmmm Chris. I guess your not

Hmmm Chris. I guess your not using the xorg.conf.NVIDIA file located in the extras directory ;-)

News to me

I didn't know about that file. Is it mentioned somewhere during installation or in the documentation? I must have missed it. Now I'm wondering what else I might have missed...

Thanks!

Linux newbie

I think that file is Dennis'

I think that file is Dennis' way of determining whether or not you read the FAQ. ;-)
He's got some neat stuff in MythDora Tools too which you won't know about unless you explore it. :-)

Whazzat?

No, I'm using the stock xorg.conf that the MD5 installer built for me like every other newbie would. You got a problem with that d00d? ;-)

Hmmmm I was wondering why

Hmmmm I was wondering why none of the XMVC Playback profiles were working...

is it safest to just replace xorg.conf with xorg.conf.NVIDIA from extras?

And will this work with an FX5200?

I'm currently using the Slim Playback Profile and that seems to playback HD content fine, all the others cause stuttering...

With a line or two tweaked

With a line or two tweaked I'm sure it might work for HDTV. I have it set for SVIDEO output. But if HD is working fine for you then I wouldn't mess with it.
