Hi,
i just did a fresh install of MD5 and so far it's great, but i'm having trouble with the Electronic Program Guide. I installed tv_grab_nl_py for the dutch program guide, but cannot find out howto tell MythTV about it.
when i start the mythtv_setup program, it only gives the options:
no grabber
Schedules Direct
Transmitted guide
How can i tell mythtv to use XML tv instead?
(or did i mess up the installation?)
The guide i followed was http://wiki.mythtv.nl//index.php/Grabbers (dutch webpage).
(i'm new to Mythtv, not to Linux).
Thank in advance.

SOLVED!
It took a while but i finally figured it out;
i removed all but the NL grabbers from /usr/bin (after backing up ;) and
after that tv_find_grabbers took only 1,5 seconds to run.
Now mythtv-setup allows me to choose XMLTV as the EPG source.
For future reference: all this was on a Via Epia CN1000e (1 GHz Esther
cpu). Before the cleanup tv_find_grabbers took 33 seconds, apparently too
long.
update: mythtvsetup error
I just a mythtvsetup from an Xterm and found the following warning:
2008-06-07 18:11:56.364 Running tv_find_grabbers.
2008-06-07 18:12:21.627 tv_find_grabbers exited early or we timed out waiting
But when i try i manually:
# tv_find_grabbers
/usr/local/bin/tv_grab_nl_py-r73|The Netherlands (tv_grab_nl_py $Rev: 73 $)
/usr/bin/tv_grab_ar|Argentina
/usr/bin/tv_grab_be|Belgium
/usr/bin/tv_grab_br_net|Brazil (NET)
[etc]
So the tv_find_grabbers script seems to work fine on it itself...
Bug?
Reinstall - no success
I just did a fresh (re)install of MD 5, but alas; again no option for XML TV.
After the first startup i saw an error about not finding XMLTV, but it disappeared too quick to write it down (also couldn't find a log file about it).
Any ideas?
If you have XMLTV installed
If you have XMLTV installed then you should be able to choose what grabber you need in Video Sources of mythtvsetup. This has never been an issue. What do you get when you do rpm -qa | grep xmltv ?

re-init myth setup?
Maybe there's another way.
As i mentioned in another post, i got an error about xmltv on the first run (after the first boot and auto logon). Is it possible to rerun that initial setup? Since i have the _nl grabber installed now...
Even if that doesn't work out, maybe i can track the source of the error
message that way.
mvg,
Guus
use another grabber
Ok, just done that:
# ls -l /usr/bin/tv_grab_nl
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 32 2008-06-06 22:05 /usr/bin/tv_grab_nl -> /usr/local/bin/tv_grab_nl_py-r73
# ls -l /usr/local/bin/tv_grab_nl_py-r73
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root root 48767 2008-06-06 22:03 /usr/local/bin/tv_grab_nl_py-r73
the tv_grab_nl_py-r73 being a freshly download copy from
http://code.google.com/p/tvgrabnlpy/downloads/list
But when i rerun mythtv setup (desktop icon) it still doesn't list xmltv as a
source.
Then there is something very
Then there is something very wrong. Either you have done something or you have a bad disk. Have you checked the SHA1SUM on the ISO? Do you have the grabber files listed in /usr/bin?

bad cd? grabber files?
The disc (DVD) seems to be ok:
[mythtv@mediabox ~]$ sha1sum /dev/cdrom
2bf9b84d0104dee33d3fbec2b8f8b69be5231bce /dev/cdrom
(tested on the very system where Mythdora runs, just to be sure)
The checksum seems to be the same as on the webpage, so the disc should be fine...
The grabber files:
ls /usr/bin/tv_gr*
/usr/bin/tv_grab_ar /usr/bin/tv_grab_huro
/usr/bin/tv_grab_be /usr/bin/tv_grab_it
/usr/bin/tv_grab_br_net /usr/bin/tv_grab_jp
/usr/bin/tv_grab_ch_search /usr/bin/tv_grab_na_dd
/usr/bin/tv_grab_combiner /usr/bin/tv_grab_na_dtv
/usr/bin/tv_grab_de /usr/bin/tv_grab_na_icons

/usr/bin/tv_grab_dtv_la /usr/bin/tv_grab_nl_wolf

/usr/bin/tv_grab_es /usr/bin/tv_grab_pt
/usr/bin/tv_grab_es_laguiatv /usr/bin/tv_grab_re
/usr/bin/tv_grab_es_miguiatv /usr/bin/tv_grab_se_swedb
/usr/bin/tv_grab_eu_epgdata /usr/bin/tv_grab_uk_bleb

/usr/bin/tv_grab_fr /usr/bin/tv_grab_za
/usr/bin/tv_grab_hr /usr/bin/tv_grep
As i mentioned in another posting, there was an error about XMLTV after
the first (auto)login.
I'm not sure if that happened before or after choosing the language (i
added the tv_grab_nl manually). Do you happen to know which programs run
on the first login? Maybe i can trace the source of the error that way.

You can check the system
You can check the system logs in /var/log/messages or the backend log /var/log/mythtv.

checking logs
Just did, but /var/log/messages only shows some gconfd errors and sometime later (after the initial setup) some YUM messages (i upgraded "mythdora" and "faad2", as specified on the web page).
/var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log showed some of these:
AutoExpire: ERROR: Filesystem Info cache is empty, unable to calculate necessary parameters.
(also some DB messages, but nothing too exciting and no XMLTV messages).
Not sure how that's
Not sure how that's possible. XMLTV is installed by default. You would have had to uncheck it during installation. If you don't have it installed then install them from the disk.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Thanks for the quick reply. AFAICS the XMLTV packages are installed, but i think i'll just redo the installation of MD.
This time i'll take a better note of what i install and don't install ;).
