This is more Fedora/Linux question but hopefully someone can help me. The hard disk that held the logical volume died (over heated I think) and is totally dead. I removed the HD and now when I boot obviously Fedora can't find the group to mount. I have booted into single mode and tried to execute
lvremove
vgremove
but I get
"Locking type 1 initialization failed"
The above happens if I try to run any volume group commands (vgscan, vgdisplay, lvdisplay etc...)
So the question is, how do I tell Fedora to remove that volume group and to not use it any more?
Thanks

Have you searched the forums here? There are alot of hits when searching on LVM.

Hi Dennis,
I should have mentioned that I did. I didn't find any that helped.
Basically the LVM only contained the one HD, the PC will not boot with that HD installed (seems like the firmware on the drive is hosed). What I want to do is just kill the volume group. Install a new drive not using LVM. Maybe I'm just better off re-installing myth, I've lost all the shows and the DB (it was all on the failed HD)....

Did you comment out the lines in /etc/fstab that referenced the failed device/volumes? That should at least allow you to get the machine to boot.

Good idea, but I decided to just reinstall. Since the HD that failed is the one that had all my Myth storage stuff on it, it made no sense to try and keep the system running. Starting from scratch also allowed me to setup a few things differently.
Thanks
