Dual Layer DVD's

I just upgraded from Mythtv 0.20 on PCLinuxOS 2007 to MythDora 5.0. The same dvd player (with the same ownership and permissions and same line in fstab) using the same batch of dual layer DVDs will not work now. Burning dual layered dvds is not working with mythachieve or k3b.
Since I haven't used Fedora for a few years, is there something I am missing? My dvd+rw-tools package is current according to yum.
Is dvd+rw-tools broken or do I need a magic feather to make it work?
Any help will be appreciated.

What do you mean by not working ? What is in /storage/temp/logs ?
Do the disks show as 8.5GB in K3B ?
Do they burn but then fail to work ?
Only thing that comes to mind is turning OFF the monitor CD/DVD drive in Myth setup. You can tell that this is on when you insert a disk and Myth automagically changes to the appropriate menu. Unfortunately this locks the drive causing Error 5s when it tries to grab the drive at the start of burning.
