Is mythdora (or mythTV) the right solution for me?
Hey guys and gals,
I am actually looking for something that will not be used as a DVR, but rather a media center that I can use to watch movie streams from via web browser. My 3-year old is starting to get picky with what he wants to watch, and it's starting to drive my wife crazy (who is dealing with our now crawling 6 month old). So rather than have my wife change DVDs every hour, our goal is to have a machine that is used essentially as a media center.
What I would like to do is load a torrent server (like deluge or the like) and have the content dropped into the media directory of mythdora (as well as manually dropping files there when I rip the DVDs we do have).
The next step would be for my son to just goto the server's web address, look at the thumbnails of his Wall-E or Nemo or whatever he is in the mood for, click the file he wants and watch it on the laptop.
I convert most of my DVDs to mpeg-4 through handbrake. Myth shouldn't have any issues with playing mp4 files on the browser, right (do I need to install optional packages?)
Does the above sound feasible for what I need with Myth? If so, do I need any special plugins to watch myth on the laptop (I have the K-lite codecs for Vista).
Thanks in advance and sorry for my naivete!

I think what you are
I think what you are describing is feabable with mythtv and mythdora via the webmyth plugin that is installed by default. I dont know that it is the best solution, but I cant offer up any alternatives. I am able to stream movies and TV via the web interface to vlc. If you configure cover art for all of your movies it is almost a matter of point and click. If I remember correctly there is some configuration and codecs that you have to change. See this link in the mythtv wiki.
