I really need some help. I'm a newbie to Linux and I am desperately tring to create a mythbox. I am also fairly poor so I'm using my old computer (not slow) and installing linux on it. I was able to get an AverTv Go 007 FM plus card (cheap card) and now I'm not finding any support for this card except for one random article that I didn't understand. None from Mythdora though, and that has been the only setup I've gotten to work so far (not knopmyth, suse 10, Debian, or Fedora Core). Albeit some of those were half hearted attempts. I really need some direction, and I can't afford to get a new card.

further news
I have, since my my last post explored a bit more of what I should have already read.... The F.A.Q. I have since discovered this link
http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Avermedia_AVerTV_GO_007_FM
but I don't fully understand what to do with this information. Like I said, I'm a newbie. How does this apply to the mythdora release of mythTV?
First of all lets get some
First of all lets get some info from you. What video card are you using and what did you choose from the installer question when asked what video card you had. Also what did you choose as far as a capture device? You should have chosen the saa7134 based card.
The Wiki page you found is very informative and tells you exactly what needs to be done. Those two commands look to be the only things needed to get this card working. So the easiest way would be to put these two commands at the end of /etc/rc.d/rc.local. Not knowing what you have answered in the setup process, go ahead and post what you have in /etc/modprobe.conf and in rc.local so we can edit that correctly.
To look at a file you can issue the cat command like this:
cat /etc/modprobe.conf
Some basic linux commands for you. Please be careful on some of them.

I'm at work right now, an don't remember everything I did. I know i have an ATI Radeon 9500 and I did a custom install. I have three harddrives and hda has a windows install on it. I could care less about the windows, but it has about 40 gigs of mp3 files, too so I didn't use the auto install. I think everything else it set up correctly except the capture card. I didn't know which one to pick orginally. I will try this stuff out tonight if I get the chance. Thank you very much for your help, even though I haven't gotten it all working yet, mythdora rocks.
OK, well if you did a custom
OK, well if you did a custom then we'll leave it at that. We can just work around what you have so we won't need to reinstall. This card actually looks easy to get working so it shouldn't be too bad. And your welcome.

Thanks again
It looks like your using the
It looks like your using the 2.1 version which is no big deal. This should work fine. So from the looks of things it looks as if all you will need to do is add these two lines to rc.local. Add these right after "touch /var/lock/subsys/local". Then reboot to see if things startup correctly.
/sbin/modprobe saa7134-oss
sox -tossdsp /dev/dsp1 -tossdsp /dev/dsp
Then once it comes back up I would read the install notes at the top and set things up in mythtvsetup. This is an Analog V4L card using /dev/video0 by the way. Unless you have more cards.

had a minor hiccup.
Not sure if it is something I did, but the gnome stopped booting. I think I accidentally did the upgrade thing that it says everywhere not to do. I really need to read before I do things. Anyway, I'm gonna reinstall with the newer version. Anything I should be aware of?
Nope, go right ahead. Just
Nope, go right ahead. Just make sure you don't ever do the upgrade thing :-).

Works great.. almost
Ok. I'm actually getting tv now. I haven;t tried much with it yet, like sound, remote, or outputting to tv, but I'm thrilled to see tv on the computer finally. My problem now is the the channels are off by one. Only on the guide though. For instance, Discovery should be channel 28, and if I turn to 28 I get Discovery, but the guide lists it on 29. I don't know how to fix that. I found a little bit of info on it, but it didn't apply, or I didn't understand it. Not sure which one. Small problem I know, but if I'm ever gonna be allowed to deploy this in my living room, its gonna have to be perfect for wife's approval. Thanx.
Well thats good news. The
Well thats good news. The channel off by one is usually due to two things. The tuner needs to be stated in modprobe.conf or your frequency is off. Let's try looking at your frequency. If you happen to be using cable then in mythtvsetup under the first option there, try changing your channel frequency to us-cable. If that doesn't work then try us-cable-hrc. You also may need to wipe out your guide data and redo mythfilldatabase just to be sure.

working good
now the channel is striahgt. I set it to us-cable-hrc.
Next question, I'm not getting any sound at all. I've got a soundblaster live card, and an intergrated sound card. On setup, the soundblaster wouldn't play the test sounds, so I set it to the internal as default. Now neither one will give out sound.
You have to turn off the
You have to turn off the internal sound card in the bios setup. MythDora has configured that one and thats why you can't hear anything when you do a test on the internal one. The SoundBlaster was never picked up so thats why it's not working. Once you turn off the internal one, then when it boots back up, hopefully Kudzu will then pick it up and you can then reconfigure the SoundBlaster.
