Can I take the XORG.conf from a known working FC6 install and put it in the /ETC/X11 dir on a brand new, single drive MD 10.21 install, cross my fingers and toes, hold my breath and watch it work like magic?

My old .19 FC6 install died when the second drive holding recordings stopped working. I probably could ask a lot of questions, replace the second drive and fix it, but I'm up for a challenge :-)

New MD10.21 install is on the same box, same motherboard, same NVIDIA geforce fx5200 card, w/ SVGA and SVIDEO, new single 500gb ide hd which I had lying around. Right now, output to my connected lcd monitor works. Output via svideo to my tv displays Jackson Pollack-esque garbage.

I know enough about Linux to not get hired by someone looking for someone who knows nothing about Linux :-)

Watching TV with commercials is killing me, I hope you can help :-)

Doesn't hurt to try, but

Doesn't hurt to try, but chances are the paths and some other directives have changed for X in general by now; so it's likely not to work.

The stock nvidia xorg will most likely work out of the box if you choose the right driver package, then you can use your old xorg.conf for reference and tuning of the new one.

Ryan

Doesn't hurt

I'll go hunting and put the xorg.conf recovery on old.

If a Xorg.conf doesn't load the gui, is there a way to back out and fix the issue with the graphic interface running?

Set up webmin!

If you set up webmin (which i think totally rocks), you can tweak it to your hearts content without having to use the GUI.

I'm not sure I follow the question? You mean back it out without the gui? Yes. Login to CLI, if you fail to start X you'll default to CLI login. Just login there and cd /etc/X11 etc.
