When viewing the tv guide it takes about 30 seconds for it to appear and we it does, using it is also very slow scrolling. After searching on gossamer threads, I found I need to run mkiconmp.pl. however when I enter a postal code, I get "invalid postal code" on 07403, 07446 and even 07054. Any ideas why it might be doing this?
Also, myth weather is frequently behind a day or two. I try to exit it and go back in, but it still behind. The radar map appears to be normal.

I would check the date and
I would check the date and time on your box. All MythTV does is read this from your system itself. If you have run out of ideas on the slow scrolling, I would delete my channel listings and do a manual mythfilldatabase. Maybe that clear the cobwebs.

Can I do this update using ATRPMS (so it's painless) without messing anything else up?
Sure. You can see if apt-get
Sure. You can see if apt-get will pull in a newer XMLTV. I'm almost positive there will be an update. But I will warn you, if you do plan on pulling in icons, your channel info being displayed using MythWeb will be slower than hell.

What sort of CPU are you
What sort of CPU are you running? If you have an older\slower cpu, the tv guides sluggishness could be being caused by the transparancy calculations that are performed to overlay guide data onto your screen when using the tv guide feature. Im pretty sure that there is an option to switch to a less recource intensive transparancy algorithem in the mythfrontend setup, under the appearance menu. I am not 100% sure the option is in the appearance menu, so if it isnt, have a look around for it, because I am 99.9% sure that it does exist.
Re: What sort of CPU are you
Athlon 1.2 ghz cpu.
I went into program guide and it was using eco - low cpu usage. Also unchecked use icons. This made no difference. I also ran a mysql optimize and set various things in my.cnf:
key_buffer = 48M
max_allowed_packet = 8M
table_cache = 128
sort_buffer_size = 48M
net_buffer_length = 8M
thread_cache_size = 4
query_cache_type = 1
query_cache_size = 4M
These also didn't help much.
I remembered I had the icons from an earlier FC2 install on another drive and just copied them over. Program guide is working at normal speeds now.
