Sorry if this is a re-post, but couldn't find a specific matching description.

I have a current Linux media server system with various partitions across a 1TB hard drive.
The 1TB drive has all my media on it. I would like to install Mythdora but I would like keep all my movies/music.

When choosing the option in mythdora to "use free disk space", does this mean it will simply create directories? Or do I need to create the partitions using the custom option?

I'm not exactly new to Linux, but I find disk partitioning and disk mounting particularly confusing.

What will happen to my existing data on my 1TB hard drive if I try to install mythdora?

Thanks,
Paken99

No. "Use free disk space"

No. "Use free disk space" does not mean it'll install linux on an existing filesystem. You need to resize the drive and create an "empty" space on the disk for that option to work. Then, mythdora would take that space and create it's necessary partitions for install.

Google for information on qtparted, there is probably a live cd you can use to boot and resize your existing partition to create free space. Mythdora needs a minimum of 20G probably to be safe.

Ryan,
Thanks for the response. I think I get it.
My problem right now is that the Linux system is a closed system so I can't install qtparted. I am trying to run my captiveworks 4000HD FTA receiver in dual boot mode. But since it's already making use of the entire disk, I will need to make a backup to keep my media before I do anything.

I think if I install mythdora and repartition the drive, I'll be able to allocate space for each. But the CW-LMC is a bit of a pig when it comes to adding additional hard drives. It will likely try to wipe out the Mythdora partition. But if Mythdora can do FTA channel scanning and recognize my DVB-S card, I may not need the CaptiveWorks software at all.

You don't have to install

You don't have to install anything, just download the iso of gparted or qtparted and make a cd, boot to it and do your resizing/adding. You wouldn't be able to resize your existing system's partitions while running that system even if you were able to install qtparted so get the iso.

Oh .. I get ya!! create a

Oh .. I get ya!! create a bootable disc and partition the existing file system. That's a great idea .. I'll try that and see what happens...

Thanks !
