DVD Player issue

If I have a dvd in my drive before I start mythfrontend then it gets recognized and it plays fine. If however I attempt to put a dvd in the drive after I have mythfrontend running and then try to play it it blanks the screen for several seconds and then returns to the menu. I have a strange issue. If I have a dvd in my drive before I start mythfrontend then it gets recognized and it plays fine.
