Reload EPG

How often does MythTV reload EPG data and how is this controlled? Can I make it reload more often?
I am use the IceTV guide in Melbourne Australia.

Take a look at the settings

Take a look at the settings in mythfrontend. I dont have my box right in front of me at the moment, but I am pretty sure that it is under the "general" section.

You might want to look here for more information on how to setup your system to access the IceTV guide data, or you could even go with oztivo, which is completely free: http://mythdora.com/?q=node/600 .

Thanks..I found the

Thanks..I found the Automatically run mythfilldatabase option in the General Setup section. This still only lets me run it once a day but I've set it to run late in the afternoon so hopefuly it'll get me the most up to date EPG info.

I've just noticed on the System Status page it says:

Last mythfilldatabase guide update:
Started 2006-09-22 16:56
Finished: 2006-09-22 16:56
Result: FAILED: xmltv returned error code 256.
There is guide data until 2006-09-24 05:00 (2 days).
WARNING: Is mythfilldatabase running?

Do I have a problem here?
Can i force it to update the guide data before the current data has expired?

Ok well thats good. I you

Ok well thats good. If you really want mythfilldatabase to run more then once a day you could write a simple script which runs mythfilldatabase and run it as a cron job, although I think that would be unnecessary since the guide data source is probably only updated once a day.

Concerning the system status page, it looks like you havent setup your guide data source right. I may be wrong, but thats the only time I have seen that error. If that is the case, take a look at the link I posted in my prevous post. There are some detaled instructions in there on how to setup mythfilldatabase to scrape data from either OzTivo or IceTV. Also check your internet connection.

If you want to manually run mythfilldatabase, just launch an xterm window, type 'mythfilldatabase', and hit enter.

It seems to be set up

It seems to be set up correctly. I've been running Myth for a couple of weeks now with scheduled recordings from the guide and all seems to be ok. I've just noticed that guide data isnt available very far into the future sometimes. I'll wait and see if the daily update helps to fix this. Thanks for your help.

The error you are seeing in

The error you are seeing in the myth status I think is related to the guide data is only updated on tvguide.org once every couple of days. The error (I think) means that there is no new data being added to the database. Your EPG will still work fine.

OK..It's 2 days later and

OK..It's 2 days later and the guide data has completly run out and no new data has been loaded. The only way i could get new data was to exit Myth and run mythfilldatabase as root.

I had similar problems

I had a very similar problem, I could run mythfilldatabase from the command line OK, but when it was run automatically I got an error. I fixed it by setting a cron job to run it once daily and all is well.

I used webmin to set up the cron job

Thanks for such a simple

Thanks for such a simple idea. I agree with Dennis that there's probably something wrong, but a daily cron job forces my EPG to update when i couldnt make Myth do it itself.

If your having to run

If your having to run mythfilldatabase outside of MythTV, then you have something very wrong with your setup.

Then setup mythfilldatabase

Then setup mythfilldatabase to run from inside MythTV so you won't have to do this manually. Go to the frontend setup and then under General check off mythfilldatabase and give it a time to run.
