I have an Audigy 1 card in my system, the exact same card works fine in my debian box but here it seems to not like the system or vice versa. I went through and dropped in the line out from my tuner card (leadtek winfast tv 2000 xp) into the AUX port on my sound card. I fired up mythtv and well the audio is not synched one bit and the strange thing is that the system plays the input even without mythtv running, so I can hear the TV all the time if thats what I wanted....
The system will load and knotify will pop up with an error regarding aRts not starting, I then go and check the control center and the system cannot determine the card and only automatic detection will be used.
Error is:
unable to start the sound server to retrive possible sound I/O methods.
only automatic detection will be used.

I can get the audio to synch but there is an issue with getting it to do so, a horrible echo. I end up running into a never ending echo in the system.
In the kmix I set in the input, analog mix (which is the only option give, thought a AUX would be there but no) the output I set AUX to max and Analog to max and well I get sound and it's synched. For about two second and then the echo is off and well annoying.
I read another post regarding this but there never seemed to be a definitave answer so hopefully this post can get one.

I have removed the artsd
I have removed the artsd daemon, or renamed if you will. This causes nothing but problems with MythTV. Unfortunatley this comes standard with KDE so I had to get rid of it.

no worries
I figured out the issue, the only devices in use are input, analog mix and output aux. I failed to notice that PCM on the input kept reseting, hence the echo....
Problem being that everytime a channel is changed or well anything, PCM on the input activates and jumps to 100% volume. This is what caused the echo so what might be the workaround?

I just went through and
I just went through and changed the Mythtv setup to use master and not PCM and it is not an issue now.
I only have slight crackling now, I'm not messing with it much more now after a full day I am burned out.
If anyone else has had intermitten video studdering and or crackling sound, lemme know what you did to fix it if you fixed it.

I spoke too soon, the PCM seems to have an issue where the input and output are set at the same time. The PCM setting in the audio section of the setup allows you to set the slider for the initial PCM volume. There is an issue though because when I set it, the output and input both get set they are not independant of one another. This means that unless I can force the input to stay muted I have to change the setting everytime I load mythtv. I may be missing something somewhaer but I do not know, any ideas?
