TVOut via Haup 350 or Nvidia 6200 card?
Submitted by bakes on December 9, 2006 - 8:40pm
Im trying to decide what soultion would be better to output my display to the tv... I have a 6200 nvidia card w/tv out and I also have a Haup 350 with the on board tvout. Right now its going to a 32" tv but I hope be upgrading to a 42" LCD 1080p after the holidays =). My system is a 2.4p4 HT w/1.5gb of ram (Its going to be backend/front end for right now). I would assume the dvi out for the 42" lcd, but what about the normal crt? I also download TV shows in HD though its not a HD tv and would like to output them as well.
Thanks.
Brad.

Hi,I use a 350 out
Hi,
I use a 350 out connected to a CRT based TV and its perfect picture wise, a lot better than an nvidia TV out (in my opinion). Main advantage is that it outputs or deals with interlace recordings so you don't need to run a deinterlace filter.
However its really only great for mpeg based files and on my machine (AMD XP1800) it can't really cope with DIVX or avi files, nor the new openGL stuff. Also by default the sound from MPEG files comes out the 350 card, but all other sound (mythmusic, avi files, etc) comes out the computer sound outs, this requires you to feed the 350 sound out into the computer's sound in.
If you have VGA/DVI inputs on your LCD TV, I'd go with the nvidia card and use the VGA/DVI output. I have a second machine connected to a projector and use the DVI option and nvidia card. This means I can use the higher resolution the nvidia/projector gives me, the 350TV out is 720x576 (PAL) including the overscan area.

Well my personal opinion
Well my personal opinion would be to stick with TV output from your Nvidia card. This will save you a headache in setting things up and from what I hear the Nvidia output is just as good if not better the the 350 output. Also the Nvidia can output HD whereas the 350 can't.

Not sure what you mean here.
I also download TV shows in HD though its not a HD tv and would like to output them as well.
Hmmm don't quote me on this but I would think you could view this on a standard TV it's just that you would be at the mercy of the maximum resolution provided by that TV.
