MD10 i386 DVD hangs during installation

MD10 i386 DVD hangs during installation. The system hangs at the select keyboard screen (third screen), or if I wait a minute or so at the first or second Fedora screen. The keyboard first stops responding, and a minute later the mouse stops responding. When everything is hung, I can not even manually eject the installation DVD.

The system is a ASUS P4P800-VM, Pentium 4, 3GHz, 2G RAM. I previously had Fedora 4 and MythTV 0.19 installed on this system. A few weeks ago I had successfully installed MD5, but I had not started the Myth configuring.

I verified that the ISO image matches the SHA1SUM value. The boot media check is also OK. The boot memory test reports no errors after more than 6 passes.

The text mode installation seems to work (but I get a screen full of "bad kmod package '...' does not require a kernel" messages (with no carriage-returns at the end of the messages).

The Fedora 10 DVD (non MythDora) does *not* have the hang problem (I did not run the full installation, just enough to see if this was a Fedora or MythDora problem).

Update

I continued experimenting and the installation worked after I installed a nVidia 6200 LE AGP video card (before I was using the on-board video hardware - Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (Intel 865G chipset)). The screen resolution was higher with the on-board video (not sure why, or if this was a factor).

Me too

I'm getting the same problem, also using onboard video. Unfortunately, I don't have another graphics card handy to use. :(

Not even a cheap card just for installation?

You don't need an expensive video card. It should only be needed for the DVD installation and system setup.

I recently updated the system that I had the problem with to 12.23. I did *not* try removing the card. I plan to give the system to somebody that only has standard video, which the card can provide.
