During installation, I checked the boxes for the \'MythDora 12\' and \'MythDora 12 Updates\' repositories (I tried not checking those two repositories, but then after I installed MythTV 0.25 I found that pulseaudio interfered with LIRC - also note that I did not check \'MythDora 12 Testing\' at this point - I tried that but it installs MythTV 0.25 straightaway and then complains about lidns_sd.so.1 not existing). Checking just those two repositories installs the latest version of MythTV 0.23. I ran through the usual machine setup (I run a master backend with frontend), including enabling the NTP time server. At the end of the setup, I upgraded the database as prompted. To allow the backend to start, I installed a capture card, set up a video source and assigned it to the capture card. I was now running MythTV 0.23. I exited MythTV to the desktop.</p>\n<p>On the desktop, I opened a terminal and ran alsamixer. I maximized the output and capture sound levels. I then ran \'alsactl store\' as root to permanently set the sound levels.</p>\n<p>I then opened System-&gt;Administration-&gt;Add/Remove Software, typed in mythtv, clicked on Find and installed mythtv-0.24-2.fc12 along with the additional packages as prompted. After rebooting, the machine automatically ran mythtv-setup. I upgraded the database as prompted. I was now running MythTV 0.24. which I then exited.</p>\n<p>On the desktop, I again opened Add/Remove Software, but this time I clicked on System-&gt;Software sources and enabled the \'MythDora 12 Testing\' repository. I then typed in mythtv and installed mythtv-0.25-3.md12 along with the additional packages. I closed the box asking me if I wanted to run MythTV. That returned me to Add/Remove Software. I typed in qt and installed qt-1:4.7.2-8.md12 along with its additional packages. I then closed Add/Remove Software.</p>\n<p>On the desktop I opened a terminal and as root I followed benh\'s instructions to edit /etc/sysconfig/mythfrontend to read:</p>\n<p><code>FRONTOPTS=\'--verbose important --logpath /var/log/mythtv/\'</code></p>\n<p>After rebooting, I upgraded the database again. I was now running MythTV 0.25. I restored my backup of /storage and went to MythDoras Tools-&gt;Database Tools-&gt;Database Backup-&gt;Restore DB to restore my database.</p>\n<p>To get control of audio level with my remote, in MythTV I went to Utilities/Setup-&gt;Setup-&gt;Audio-&gt;Audio Mixer, checked the box for Internal Volume Controls and set the Master and PCM to volumes to maximum.</p>\n<p>I was now back in business.</p>\n', created = 1369064179, expire = 1369150579, headers = '', serialized = 0 WHERE cid = '1:7671943214b55daa79ea0c7265879fa7' in /var/www/mythdora/html/includes/cache.inc on line 109.

I saw that MythTV .25 was released today. What's everyone's plan to move to it? Is there any easy Fedora or CentOS option?

Better late

Finally took the plunge and kicked my installation up to .25-3. Quite happy. Nothing was lost and the one thing that pleases me most is the fact that my Samsung plasma 720p is configured automatically. No more kludgy twin-view hack for me (ok, I'm sure I could have investigate and solved the set config.,but sometimes I just say "good enough" emphasis on "enough".) Anyhow, this should hold me for some time, things seem very stable..."enough"! I'm good, Thank you Mr. Pisani !!

MythTV 0.25 In MythDora-Testing

Ok fellas... with some dependency building an work arounds I have a working 0.25 build in the mythdora-testing repo.. I tested upgrading a virtual machine from 0.24 to it and it's working so I think it should be good to go. Here are the update steps: (SOME ONE BRAVE SHOULD TRY THIS FIRST AND REPORT BACK TO THE REST OF THE USERS)

1) Backup your database
2) Reset your theme to the Stock Terra Theme (only the base-themes package is available right now)
2) Remove all myth rpms with this command , it's major upgrade and some packages no longer exist (don't blow away the mythdora rpm)
- rpm -qa | grep -i myth | grep -v mythdora | xargs rpm -e --nodeps
3) Run the following yum command:
- yum --enablerepo=mythdora-testing clean all
4) Run the install command for mythtv
- yum --enablerepo=mythdora-testing install mythtv

Then run mythtv-setup and upgrade your database, and start up the frontend.

EDIT: A new -2 rpm is coming later today. Looks like rpmfusion's got a second one building already, I assume it must address some issues.

Please report back with results.

Why not use Add/Remove Software to install 0.25?

Is there a reason to use rpm and yum instead of the GUI PackageKit (Add/Remove Software)?

I have been running MythTV 0.25 for about a year, but I recently had a hard drive failure, so I decided to reinstall MythDora 12.23 from scratch and update to 0.25. Fortunately, I was able to save my /storage folder, including my current database in /storage/dorabackup. Here is what I did:

First I installed MythDora 12.23 normally. During installation, I checked the boxes for the 'MythDora 12' and 'MythDora 12 Updates' repositories (I tried not checking those two repositories, but then after I installed MythTV 0.25 I found that pulseaudio interfered with LIRC - also note that I did not check 'MythDora 12 Testing' at this point - I tried that but it installs MythTV 0.25 straightaway and then complains about lidns_sd.so.1 not existing). I exited MythTV to the desktop.

On the desktop, I opened a terminal and ran alsamixer. I maximized the output and capture sound levels. I then ran 'alsactl store' as root to permanently set the sound levels.

I then opened System->Administration->Add/Remove Software, typed in mythtv, clicked on Find and installed mythtv-0.24-2.fc12 along with the additional packages as prompted. After rebooting, the machine automatically ran mythtv-setup. I upgraded the database as prompted. I was now running MythTV 0.24. which I then exited.

On the desktop, I again opened Add/Remove Software, but this time I clicked on System->Software sources and enabled the 'MythDora 12 Testing' repository. I then closed Add/Remove Software.

On the desktop I opened a terminal and as root I followed benh's instructions to edit /etc/sysconfig/mythfrontend to read:

FRONTOPTS='--verbose important --logpath /var/log/mythtv/'

After rebooting, I upgraded the database again. I was now running MythTV 0.25. I restored my backup of /storage and went to MythDoras Tools->Database Tools->Database Backup->Restore DB to restore my database.

To get control of audio level with my remote, in MythTV I went to Utilities/Setup->Setup->Audio->Audio Mixer, checked the box for Internal Volume Controls and set the Master and PCM to volumes to maximum.

I was now back in business.

Upgraded successfully apart

Upgraded successfully apart from a few minor things like the backend check.

I've noticed that error mythcommflag job is failing every time with "Error 140". From the backend logs.

I found a few posts saying it was fixed in 0.24 and a few reporting it in 0.25, but no solution.

When I run mythcommflag -f .mpg manually from the command line it appears to complete (mostly) successfully. It runs to 100% and the last lines output are:

2012-05-20 20:39:08.613653 E AFD: Unknown audio decoding error
2012-05-20 20:39:08.613926 E decoding error
eno: Input/output error (5)

Anyone seeing the same? It maybe it's running all the way to the end and only erroring there.

Didn't work for me

I used a clonezilla live cd to backup my system partitions before the failed attempt, so I'm back up and running on 0.24.

The first issue I had was that I tried to run the command in step 2 with sudo and it didn't work, had to run as root.

After successfully running step 2 & 3, step 4 failed with:
alsa-lib-1.0.......i686 is a duplicate with alsa-lib-1.0........x86_64
mythdora-1.5......... has missing requires of mythtv
mythdora-1.5......... has missing requires of mythtv-frontend
nuvexport-0.5........ has missing requires of perl(MythTV)
nuvexport-0.5........ has missing requires of perl-MythTV >= ('0', '0.21', None)
sdlmame-data......... has missing requires of sdlmame >= ('0', '0137', None)

I did a yum list installed myth* and it only listed the 2 mythdora packages.

It was trying to install the -2 packages.

Ben

No problems here

-2 rpms installed without a hitch on two of my frontends. I needed to edit /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt with the remote database server to get the slave master backend to run as a service. It ran fine in a terminal as both "root" and "mythtv" properly pulling settings from ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt. I've run into this before but never bothered to figure out why some of my machines look in /etc even when mythtv-settup edits ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt.

My master backend is running atrpms/Centos 6 so my particular update didn't do any database manipulation. Anyone updated a master yet?

Pisani - THANK YOU! I was not looking forward to reconfiguring my primary frontends with all the alsa/xorg/wiimote/lirc/game tweeks.

Sean

You probably needed to do a

You probably needed to do a clean with yum --enablerepo=mythdora-testing clean all.

If you're not enabling the the mythdora-testing repo you won't see the 0.25 rpms. You may also find that some things need to be manually removed.

I wasn't clear

I did do the clean all and enabled the testing repo. The 0.25-2 rpms were the ones that were listed when I tried to install mythtv.

When I said I only saw the 2 mythdora packages, that was when I did a yum "list installed" to see what was still installed after I removed mythtv.

I wanted to make sure mythtv had been removed and I don't understand why it was saying mythdora "has missing requires of mythtv", when that's what was being installed.

Ben

Yeah, you'll have a few

Yeah, you'll have a few broken dependencies initially, like mythdora rpm. But once you install 0.25 they should be resolved and it won't complain anymore.

You should still be able to proceed with the install of the packages. However, there may be things like nuvexport that have a hard requirement for some version. If that's the case, and you don't use nuvexport just rip the package out.

I plan to upgrade my systems this weekend after I produce an MD10 based package for my master backend.

Got it running now, but I did

Got it running now, but I did have to remove qt-x11 (with nodeps) as I seemed to have a version mismatch otherwise after install the backend wouldn't start some undefined symbol error (I think the same as this: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libmythbase-0.25.so.0: undefined symbol: ZN9QListData11detach_growEPii)

I think I had to remove and re-add my tuner cards as well?? and enable the backend service.

Ben

OK, I think I was in too much

OK, I think I was in too much of a hurry as I only had a few hours to image install and re-image if it failed. It's most likely the install failed for me for some other reason and it was just yum listing the packages with missing dependencies at the end.

I will try again when I have some more time.

Ben

Had some issues with the

Had some issues with the upgrade the becheck was restarting the backend each time it ran :( I've just disabled this for now

also the desktop shortcut doesn't work however running from the command line works fine, but I would very much like this to work

Also noticed airplay is not working either, I have followed the instructions here http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/AirTunes/AirPlay

Cheers,

Anthony

Hi, I just upgraded to 0.25-3

Hi,
I just upgraded to 0.25-3 and the only issue I ran into was that /etc/sysconfig/mythfrontend contained the old --logfile option which I've now replaced with --logpath /var/log/mythtv/
This was causing the frontend not to startup automatically, and broke the desktop icon and the power button on the remote.

Thanks for your efforts, keeping the repos up to date, guys!

Dave

I think I found the issue

I think I found the issue with becheck

I changed line 55 to

if !(netstat -na | grep 6543 | grep -q LISTEN); then

rather then

if !(netstat -na | grep 0.0.0.0:6543 | grep -q LISTEN); then

Haven't tested this yet but I think that should work

Looks like the same issue

thought there was the same issue with /usr/share/mythdora/mythfrontend.sh

Changed line 44 to
bestatus=$(netstat -an | grep -c ":6543")

From
bestatus=$(netstat -an | grep -c "0.0.0.0:6543")

And Line 120 to

bestatus=$(netstat -an | grep -c ":6543")

From
bestatus=$(netstat -an | grep -c "0.0.0.0:6543")

also added above line 180

export MYTHTV_AIRPLAY="1"

still wont launch from /usr/share/mythdora/mythfrontend.sh

does from command
mythfrontend --verbose important --logpath /var/log/mythtv/

and still no airplay joy but I read something about missing lib dependances but I cant find where I read this in mythtv-users

What's really needed is a new

What's really needed is a new Mythdora rpm as the last one was from June 2010. This is what people are really after if the distro cannot continue due to lack of time. It's the Mythdora tools that make Mythdora what it is once installed.

By the way, I did make some changes per your posts. The only question I have is with the becheck.sh. Should there be a : before the port address like your examples in the frontend script?

I just made these changes moments ago. Before this, I had a TV program record dozens of short files due to the backend restarting all the time. Starting the frontend works with the icon in the multimedia section of the menu. I'll probably use those to replace the ones on the desktop.

With or without the : will

With or without the : will work for becheck.sh but yes its better to keep it there for consistency

also needed to

yum install perl-IO-Socket-INET6

for ther perl Bindings for nuvexport which also needed to be updated as there was no package

git clone git://github.com/MythTV/nuvexport.git
cd nuvexport
git checkout fixes/0.25
make install
mv /usr/bin/nuvexport /usr/bin/nuvexport.bak
mv /usr/share/nuvexport /usr/share/nuvexport.bak
cp /usr/local/bin/nuvexport /usr/bin/nuvexport
mv /usr/local/share/nuvexport /usr/share/nuvexport

I just left it without the :

I just left it without the : for now. I recorded an hour of news to test the waters, it's fine.

The remote feature is awesome. I can use my laptop via mythweb and interactive mode to type and use my laptop's keyboard if I need keyboard input.

Mythmusic takes some getting used to. I hope there is a way to set up shoutcast or equivalent streaming.

want remote

When I crashed in December, I had started to try to get the latest Fedora going as I wanted to use remote on my HD-PVR (it wasn't enabled until after FC12), but was having all sorts of problem -- it seemed like it was going to take forever and I needed to be up and running quick, so I came back to MythDora...

I've been using a standard size wireless keyboard, lugging it from couch to recliner as needed. Remember the early "luggables"?

0.25 is out, what's everyone doing?

I want to know too. I've been following since Fedora Core 4 and still need some guidance.

I'm hoping to have an 0.25

I'm hoping to have an 0.25 rpm that works on MythDora 12.x in a few weeks.

Well that *will* be interesting !

Think I'll be getting a new boot drive again. :-)

No doubt there will be new and exciting kinks to work through....and I suspect a number of update dependencies.

It will be interesting to see the new HDMI-CEC stuff. My TV sees the Nvidia G210 card HDMI connection for CEC so I'm hoping I can push record in the EPG on the TV to record stuff on Myth ! I think they are only going Myth > TV at the moment though.

Take your time Ryan - we'll appreciate it when its done !

Cheers
Ian

I doubt CEC will work unless

I doubt CEC will work unless you have the USB -> CEC adapter in place as apparently theres only one graphics card that actually connects the CEC pin.

Very much looking forward to the 0.25 packages I had hoped to have my own build environment setup but I'm stuck in dependancy hell :(

Seconded! Ours is still

Seconded! Ours is still doing everything we need it to and doing it without issue, so take your time!

Ok we did the upgrade this

Ok we did the upgrade this morning. All went well and my wife is very happy!! Thank you Pisani.

What upgrade commands did you

What upgrade commands did you use? I have 4 front ends and and a backend that need upgrading. Well I was going to stay on .24.2 or the latest update but I need to add a new fronted now and the old command is pulling in .25

you should be able to

you should be able to uninstall all the current 0.25 packages and run

yum --enablerepo=mythdora-testing install mythtv-0.24-5 (or what ever version you have on your other machines)

sudo rpm -qa | grep "mythtv-0.24"

should tell you which version you currently have installed

Ok, I will probably do that.

Ok, I will probably do that. What about the m2vrequantiser mythtv-themes qt? The first post on the home page said those needed to be updated as well for .24-5. Just add them to the yum command? If I wanted to upgrade to .25 what yum command do i use then?

if you only yum remove mythtv

if you only yum remove mythtv it wont remove m2vrequantiser or qt you may also need to remove mythtv-themes but not sure

if you later want to upgrade to 0.25 just use the normal steps to upgrade as above in this thread

I do not think that is

I do not think that is working. I have mythtv-0.24.1-5.md12.i686 on all my systems. When I try to upgrade a new frontend to that I am in dependency hell. I think. Any ideas?
